Mental Health & Healing with Neurofeedback

Neurofeedback is a scientifically backed method that supports brain regulation through real-time feedback. As an adjunct to therapy, medication, or other support systems, it provides a way to directly retrain the brain to respond differently—more calmly, more clearly, and more in control. It’s especially effective for trauma-related conditions, chronic stress, and neurodivergent experiences where traditional approaches may not be enough on their own.

Veterans and Trauma Survivors

Rebuilding stability and peace after service.

A considerable number of people with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) do not respond to conventional first-line treatments—making the need for innovative, evidence-based approaches more urgent than ever.

One promising option is neurofeedback therapy. A growing body of research supports its use in helping individuals manage PTSD and related mental health conditions. Neurofeedback empowers individuals to self-regulate brain activity, targeting areas that may have become dysregulated following trauma. This can ease core symptoms such as emotional reactivity, hypervigilance, flashbacks, avoidance, disrupted sleep, and persistent negative thoughts or mood.

In Canada, a groundbreaking neurofeedback clinical trial was completed in 2023 by researchers from the Atlas Institute for Veterans and Families, the University of Ottawa, Western University, and the University of Geneva. The results were compelling: over 60% of participants no longer met the diagnostic criteria for PTSD following treatment. Symptom severity also decreased significantly—underscoring the potential of neurofeedback as a powerful therapeutic option.

Ongoing research continues to explore how neurofeedback can improve outcomes for those affected by trauma, especially in veteran and first responder communities. At Peak Brain, we’re proud to offer neurofeedback as part of our commitment to supporting those who’ve served and others living with trauma-related challenges.

ACCESSING NEUROFEEDBACK THERAPY

Neurofeedback/EEG biofeedback is approved by Veterans Affairs Canada (VAC) as an adjunct therapy for:

  • PTSD
  • Generalized anxiety disorder
  • Major depressive disorder

Neurofeedback/EEG Biofeedback therapy is covered and can be reimbursed under mental health services through VAC/Medavie Blue Cross for Veterans who qualify.

A recommendation from a primary doctor/mental health professional (e.g., psychiatrist, psychologist or GP) is required.

First Responders

Staying strong on the job and at home.

Paramedics, firefighters, police officers, and other frontline professionals often experience repeated trauma and constant high-alert situations. The long-term toll can manifest as anxiety, emotional detachment, irritability, sleep difficulties, and even posttraumatic stress.

Neurofeedback gives the brain the opportunity to reset. Instead of forcing yourself to “push through,” you’re training your nervous system to come down from survival mode, re-establish calm, and respond to stress more effectively. Over time, this leads to improved emotional regulation, better sleep, and greater mental clarity—helping first responders not just perform better, but feel more in control of their own well-being.

We understand the culture of service—and create a safe, private space for recovery that fits your needs.

Addiction Recovery

A supportive tool for long-term healing.

Addiction affects the brain’s reward system, emotional regulation, and impulse control—making recovery not just a behavioural journey but a neurological one. Neurofeedback supports this healing by addressing the underlying dysregulation in brain activity that contributes to cravings, mood swings, and relapse triggers.

By measuring and feeding back real-time information about your brainwave patterns, neurofeedback teaches your brain to shift into more balanced and stable states. Clients often report better sleep, improved focus, emotional resilience, and an increased sense of control—all critical elements of recovery.

Whether you’re newly in treatment or years into your sobriety, neurofeedback can enhance your recovery plan and support long-term change.

Neurodiverse Individuals

Celebrating diverse brains with customized support.

Neurodiversity covers a wide range of experiences—including ADHD, autism, sensory sensitivities, learning differences, and other non-typical brain functions. These aren’t problems to be “fixed,” but ways of being that may sometimes come with challenges in focus, emotional regulation, overwhelm, and communication.

Neurofeedback is a non-invasive way to support these brains in learning self-regulation. For children, teens, or adults, it can help improve attention, reduce anxiety or overstimulation, stabilize mood, and support better sleep. The process is individualized, gentle, and responsive—offering feedback to help the brain learn without pressure or judgment.

Whether you’re a parent seeking support for your child or an adult seeking clarity and calm, neurofeedback offers tools to help you thrive as yourself—not someone else.

Cognitive Performance & Brain Development

While neurofeedback is a powerful support for those experiencing mental health challenges, it’s also an incredible performance enhancer. You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit. From young professionals to lifelong learners, elite athletes to those noticing signs of aging, neurofeedback helps sharpen focus, optimize sleep, and improve emotional and cognitive flexibility.

Executives & High Performers

Train your brain to lead with clarity.

In high-stakes roles, mental noise can be your greatest obstacle. Whether you’re a business leader, entrepreneur, creative, or strategist, the demands on your attention and decision-making systems are relentless. Stress builds. Focus scatters. Sleep suffers.

Neurofeedback helps restore your ability to function at a high level—without burning out. By training the brain to remain calm, focused, and adaptable under pressure, clients often notice improvements in cognitive sharpness, stress resilience, and productivity. Over time, it can reduce the brain’s tendency to get stuck in overthinking, emotional reactivity, or distraction.

Think of it as performance training for your most powerful asset: your mind.

Peak Athletes

Because your brain is part of the team.

Elite performance isn’t just physical—it’s mental. Athletes need focus, precision, recovery, and mental resilience. Neurofeedback supports all of this by helping the brain operate in its ideal performance zone.

Athletes who train with neurofeedback often experience better reaction times, increased emotional control, faster recovery after setbacks or poor performances, and deeper rest during sleep. Whether you’re training for competition or coming back from an injury, this is the edge that separates good from great.

Your body trains hard—let your brain do the same.

Healthy Aging & Brain Vitality

Because cognitive decline isn’t inevitable.

As we age, changes in memory, focus, processing speed, or emotional regulation can slowly impact our quality of life. But the brain is incredibly adaptable—no matter your age. Neurofeedback supports brain plasticity by helping you stay mentally sharp, emotionally steady, and connected to your environment.

Clients report improvements in attention, mood, sleep quality, and a sense of mental clarity. It’s a proactive and empowering way to care for your brain—just like you would your body—with the goal of maintaining independence, confidence, and vitality well into later life.

Personal Growth & Development

Create inner alignment with your outer goals.

Sometimes, you’re not stuck—you’re just not aligned. Neurofeedback can help clear the mental fog, calm inner noise, and create space for new insight and motivation. Whether you’re facing a life transition, starting a new chapter, or simply want to deepen self-awareness, this work can help you move forward with clarity and emotional steadiness.

Our clients have used neurofeedback to support everything from building emotional intelligence to enhancing creativity and cultivating a greater sense of calm presence.

There’s no “right” reason to train your brain—just a desire to grow.

Veterans

Reclaim calm, clarity, and control. Neurofeedback offers a science-backed path to healing for veterans experiencing PTSD, anxiety, sleep disruptions, and hypervigilance. With emerging Canadian research showing promising results, we’re proud to support those who’ve served.
